What to Expect
Deciding to come for counselling can be a big decision. It may come after weeks or months of struggle. You may feel anxious or fearful coming for your first session. Or it could feel like you should be able to cope without extra support especially if you have managed before. This could be one of the best decisions to feel well again. It is about you.
Initial Sessions
As a therapist I believe it is important for me become familiar with the client in the initial sessions. What has brought the person to counselling and what do they expect from it. This initial connection is vital in building the relationship. The client may wish to share a lot of information or not as they choose. The client may decide that it is not for them or they prefer another approach. It may feel uncomfortable or painful at times. This is normal. The client is encouraged to ask questions and understand what is involved

Further Sessions
As counselling progresses the client may start to identify patterns and find understanding in what is going on for them. They may learn to trust themselves better and make changes which will help them through their challenges. Thought change and behavior changes may happen. Relationships may improve.
